All about me and my ramblings

I graduated from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, in 1997 and did my residency training in family medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center (ROCK-CHALK-JAYHAWK!). After twenty years with the same family medicine group in the suburbs of Dallas/Fort Worth, it was time to hang it up and pursue a dream I had been harboring for several years- joining the Indian Health Service.

A two-thousand mile commute

I started with the Indian Health Service in May 2020 and it was an auspicious time to experience Native American health disparities and socio-economic inequities in the midst of a global respiratory virus pandemic. I commute two weeks at a time between home in Texas and any of six IHS clinics in the Pacific Northwest- three clinics in Washington, two clinics in Oregon, and one clinic in Idaho.

Science geek, history geek, aviation geek

I am also a published aviation artist having collaborated with several authors with my aviation profiles having been published in both magazines and books. I have long done freelance graphic design, aviation art and photography as well, from commissioned works to designing box art for model aircraft companies.

In February 2019, with several good friends, we launched an online aviation magazine “The AvGeeks” (www.theavgeeks.com). In December 2019, with one of my closest friends launched our own aviation publishing imprint, La Jetée Press (www.lajeteepress.com). We have two aviation authors signed on with us and this past April 2022 we released our inaugural publication “Fighting to be Heard: How the British Aerospace 146 Started the Regional Jet Revolution” by Brian Wiklem.

In addition to aviation history, I have long been interested in American Civil War history as well as the history of the American Indians/Alaska Natives. On the science front, in addition to medicine and the life sciences, I have long been interested in meteorology, astronomy and geology.

My nerdiness knows no bounds!
